The Madden simulations are 1-1 this year when predicting Washington Redskins games. They have once again predicted a loss, this time to the Oakland Raiders in a primetime matchup.

So far during the 2017 NFL season, Madden simulations have not been kind to the Washington Redskins. In each of the first two weeks, the simulations we got from App Trigger and Michael Owens predicted a Redskins loss. While they were correct the first week, Washington did manage a win in the second week to move the simulation record to 1-1.

In Week 3, things are once again looking difficult for the Redskins per the simulations. They have a Sunday night matchup with the Raiders in what is supposed to be one of the more entertaining contests of the week. Both teams have excellent passing offenses but weaknesses at various points on the defense. It could end up being a shootout, and that is what the Madden sim is predicting.

The final score, per the simulation, is a 33-26 Redskins loss. This may seem like a good thing, but it appears to be a game that the Redskins should have definitely have won.

According to the simulation, the Redskins were leading 23-3 at the half and had been dominating the contest. But as the Redskins do so often, they let their opponent back into the game, and this time, it sorely cost them.

The Raiders put up 24 unanswered fourth quarter points in the simulation and the Redskins simply were not able to compete. Scoring just 3 points after the half doomed them to fail. Here’s what the simulation said about the Redskins key performers.

"Kirk Cousins threw for 282 yards and a touchdown of his own, but his lone interception in the fourth quarter to Sean Smith became Oakland’s opportunity to put away the game late. Robert Kelly led Washington on the ground with 117 yards on 29 carries and a touchdown, while Chris Thompson also scored on his lone rush of the game."

The least surprising part of this is sadly the fact that Kirk Cousins threw a late interception to shift momentum in the favor of the Redskins opponent. Cousins has a knack for throwing picks at terrible times, and it looks like this game was no different. He may not turn the ball over much, but it is always a bad mistake when he does.

Meanwhile, Rob Kelley‘s numbers seem to be a bit inflated. Not because of his level of talent. It’s just his health. Last week, Kelley was en route to posting over 100 yards, but was knocked out of the second half with a rib injury. This week, he will deal with the lingering effects of that and he may not see as many carries. The team is going to have all four running backs active this week including Mack Brown, so it may be a backfield by committee approach.

As for Chris Thompson, it is encouraging to see him notch another touchdown, and it is unsurprising to see him log just a single carry. He likely will continue to play mostly in passing situations.

Overall, Washington need to hope that this simulation is not accurate. A loss like this would be an awful blow to the team, and it could cause them to lose confidence. They have to hope that what happens in the first half stays the same, but the second half sees them lock down the Raiders offense and emerge victorious.
