The Washington Redskins have stayed relatively healthy to start the 2017 NFL season. Their only questionable player for NFL Week 2 is Josh Doctson.

The Redskins injury report has stayed relatively clean to start the NFL season. Though they lost Trent Murphy to a torn ACL and MCL, they have not lost too many other players. Spencer Long missed time in the preseason, but he was back for the opener. Su’a Cravens is not with the team, but he is not injured. He is contemplating retirement.

Heading into Week 2 of the NFL season, the Redskins continue to be in good health. They have only one player listed as questionable, and that is receiver Josh Doctson.

Doctson is one of the players who was expected to make the leap heading into his second season. He had lost most of his rookie season to an Achilles injury. The coaching staff tried to bring him back from the malady too quickly, and it ended up hindering his development. Prior to the midpoint of the season, the Redskins had to put Doctson on the Injured Reserve after just playing in two games and making a couple of catches.

This year, things have not gone as planned for Doctson. During training camp, Doctson suffered a hamstring injury. At the time, I pointed out that hamstring injuries can tend to linger and though the injury was minor, the team should be worried. That has proven to be true.

Doctson was active for the first contest of the season, but he barely saw the field. Ryan Grant actually started as the team’s second receiver, but he is better served as a top backup and special teams ace. Doctson has more talent than Grant, but he just hasn’t done enough to convince Jay Gruden that he deserves more playing time.

For Sunday, one would expect that the Redskins inactives list will be very similar to the one they had in the first week of the season. We predicted 6 of the 7 inactives correctly in Week 1, and the only one we got wrong was Samaje Perine, who got the nod over veteran Mack Brown.

That said, if Doctson can’t go or if the Redskins opt to sit him anyway, it seems likely that he will hit the inactives list. If that happens, the team would likely activate Brown and roll with four players at the receiver position. If that happens, then the Redskins will have to use more two tight end sets than normal against the Rams, but they have the talent to do that.
