The Redskins have been active today, reclaiming seven former players from the waiver wire, placing them on the practice squad. Maurice Harris is one of those players.

NFL teams often prioritize their own players when compiling their own practice squads. The Redskins are no exception. They’ve added nine players to the practice squad, and seven have been with the team all offseason. The list of added players goes as follows:

  • OG Kyle Kalis
  • LB Pete Robertson
  • S Fish Smithson
  • FB/TE Manasseh Garner
  • DL Brandon Banks
  • WR Maurice Harris
  • WR Robert Davis
  • WR Dres Anderson
  • OL Anthony Fabiano

Two players who remain notably absent from this list are ILB Nico Marley and QB Nate Sudfeld. Marley, the Tulane product impressed all offseason with his fundamentals and in-game energy. But the team may have been rubbed the wrong way by his size.

Meanwhile, Sudfeld had a predominantly underwhelming offseason, and although he showed a bit of growth in the final preseason game, he obviously fell out of favor in Redskins Park. The team was reportedly interested in signing him back to the practice squad, but he isn’t there yet, and one has to wonder if he’ll ever be.

There’s still one spot remaining, and both of these players haven’t been signed to any other teams yet. But the Redskins appeared to prioritize their own players first, and if they weren’t able or willing to get Sudfeld and Marley then, a later move is less probable. Sudfeld, in particular, is likely to garner at least some interest on the waiver wire, due to his size and arm strength.
