Tight End

Manasseh Garner

The Redskins were able to trade away tight end Derek Carrier before the cut to 53 and they subsequently opted to keep four tight ends. One of the players at the position that they elected not to keep was Manasseh Garner. The former Pittsburgh product has bounced around the NFL over the course of the past three seasons, but he offers something that the Redskins like. Versatility.

Garner is a solid special teams player who plays both the tight end and fullback positions. Garner is a player who could be similar to Niles Paul. A do-it-all type of player with a strong special teams presence. This is what may allow him to stick around with the Redskins.

Though the Redskins do have depth at tight end, they do have injury issues at the position. The aforementioned Paul has only played in eight games in the last two seasons and starter Jordan Reed has also had trouble staying healthy. Because of this, the team needs to make sure that they have depth in reserve, in case they lose a player to injury.

Garner may not be the most inspiring option, but he is versatile and can play special teams. He is a good piece to have, and the Redskins seem to like him enough to keep him.
