In yet another team player move, DeAngelo Hall has taken another pay cut for the Redskins.

DeAngelo Hall will likely remain on the team in light of the release of veteran presence Will Blackmon. But he’ll be much cheaper than he previously was. Hall recently took a pay cut, decreasing his $2.2 million guaranteed salary to $1.1 million, plus incentives.

The move doesn’t come on the heels of any major signing. Rather, it shows that Hall knows where his place is. The veteran has provided the Redskins with a steady presence over the years, but his play has also steadily declined, and injuries have often kept him sidelined.

Now in 2017, the team has opted to restructure the former Pro Bowler’s contract, and he pleaded no contest. With less of a cap hit coming from Hall, the team can better focus on allocating their resources more efficiently. It’s another team-friendly move for Hall, who has showed plenty of promise as a future front office candidate.

With Hall seemingly returning to the roster following his time on the PUP list, it’s unclear who will make the roster at the safety position. D.J. Swearinger, Su’a Cravens, and Deshazor Everett are virtual locks, but behind them, Montae Nicholson and Fish Smithson are less certain to have jobs waiting for them.

Nicholson is the better bet for a roster spot. He offers physicality and speed as a special teams player, and the Redskins also invested a fourth-round pick in him. But undrafted free agent Fish Smithson has shown promise in limited action. A roster spot may not be in his future, but at the very least, his instincts and awareness have been considered by the coaching staff.

For now, however, it seems to be Swearinger and Everett at free safety, and Cravens and Nicholson at strong safety, with Hall returning when healthy. It remains to be seen whose roster spot Hall will take when he returns, but for now, the Redskins have other things to worry about. They’ve settled the Hall situation for the time being, and both sides seem to be content with the situation.
