Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles guaranteed a victory over the Washington Redskins in Week 1 of the NFL season. Zach Brown didn’t take too kindly to that.

The Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles have long had a rivalry. Playing in the same division, the two have played some bitter contests during their days, and one of the biggest games circled on the schedule every year for the Redskins is the first time they play the Eagles. This year, they will square off in Week 1 of the NFL season with a chance to get off to a quick start.

The game is going to be played at the Redskins home stadium, but Lane Johnson of the Eagles didn’t seem to think to much of that. The team’s starting right tackle recently wrote in a piece for The Player’s Tribune that the Eagles would give the Redskins a run for their money in Week 1.

Actually, Johnson didn’t mince words. He really took a shot at the Redskins and said the following of the game:

"Let me tell you what’s going to happen in a couple of weeks: This team is going to go down to D.C. and whup some ass against the Redskins. We’re going to surprise some people."

On the surface, that may not seem like an awful thing to say. He’s just expressing confidence in his team after all. But in a rivalry game, it’s important not give give your opponent anything extra to fuel the fire. And Johnson did that.

Notably, the newest member of the Redskins starting defense, Zach Brown, took exception to what Johnson said. After hearing about Johnson’s comments, Brown unleashed this gem on Twitter.

Brown’s reference to PEDs is in regards to Johnson’s 10 game suspension from last season for violating the league’s Performance Enhancing Drugs policy. It was Johnson’s second suspension since coming into the league, and to say that the Eagles missed him would be an understatement. The impact of having Johnson on the field was astronomical, as the Eagles were 5-1 with him and 2-8 without him. Carson Wentz’s numbers also went up with him on the field. But Brown’s implication that the PEDs helped Johnson and the Eagles won’t sit well with the Redskins rival.

This feud will certainly be something to keep an eye on in the first week of the season. As angry as players can get about words off the field, they have to back up their talk with performance on the field. It will be interesting to see if Brown or Johnson is playing with something to prove early in the season.
