Previewing the Washington Redskins vs. Green Bay Packers in NFL Preseason Week 2
Overall outlook
Like I said last week, preseason games are extremely hard to predict. In fact, last week I had the Redskins winning by five points, and that turned out to be wildly inaccurate. In this contest, it’s easier to get a read on which team has the advantage.
The Packers are younger at backup quarterback. They have young weapons on offense who need to get experience and fight for roster spots. Mike McCarthy is a proven, veteran head coach and he led his team to a victory in the first week of the preseason.
The Redskins have a solid head coach in Jay Gruden. They have a solid roster that is a nice mix of veteran and younger players. They are also coming off a terrible performance and may still need some extra time to shake off the rust.
Obviously, there are two ways that this game could go. The team with the veteran backup quarterback could see success early on and have that team jump out to a lead. Conversely, the team with the younger quarterbacks could use their athleticism to get the Packers out ahead early on and make the Redskins play catch up.
Next: Nico Marley could make the Redskins final roster
At the end of the day, I’m taking the Packers to win this one. The Redskins will drop to 0-2, but perhaps that will give them a taste of losing, and motivate them to win in the regular season.
