The Redskins have more “Joshes” than the entire NFC East combined

In terms of statistics, the Redskins were, for lack of a better word, bipolar last season. The offense was electric, ranking third in the NFL in total yardage. The defense was less so, stumbling in at 28th. On the roster, another stat also fluctuates.

Plenty of players on the Redskins have unique, one-of-a-kind names. Bashaud. Deshazor. Kurt (Wait a minute). And likely a fan favorite already, Samaje. While the team is home to many of these unique monikers, it’s also home to five players who bear the same name: Josh.

Yes, that’s right. Five Joshes reside on the Redskins’ roster, and three (possibly four) are defensive backs. Josh Doctson, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Josh Evans, Josh Holsey, and Josh Norman. One in every eighteen players on the roster is named “Josh”. That’s 5.5 percent. Combined, the “Joshes” account for almost exactly the amount of cap space used by Kirk Cousins in 2017. How about that, huh?

Here’s more unnecessary stats for you. That total, five, is more than the total number of Joshes throughout the rest of the NFC East. Of all the players on the Giants, Cowboys, and Eagles, only three are named “Josh”. They’re probably jealous. I bet they’re jealous.

However, it makes you wonder. Is this amazing statistical feat all that great for the “Joshes”? For all we know, they could have been in one of those grades back in elementary school where fourteen kids shared their name. Perhaps this is just dragging on the nightmare of not knowing who’s talking to who. When someone beckons the name “Josh” on Monday Night Football, desperate for defensive help, who answers the call? Will the right Josh turn his head?

I’m getting carried away. Don’t worry, folks. Training camp is literally right around the corner. The real stories are on the horizon.
