The rapport between receivers and quarterback will be a large factor in determining the Washington Redskins’ level of success in 2017.

The new starters have a lot of upside. But timing comes before touchdowns. For much of the offseason, Kirk Cousins has been working to perfect his timing with newly-appointed starters Terrelle Pryor and Josh Doctson.

Progress has been made, and Pryor, in particular, has an advantage due to his past experience as a quarterback. But there’ll still be hiccups. Nevertheless, you won’t hear any cause for alarm coming from Jay Gruden. On Wednesday, Gruden voiced his confidence in the chemistry between Cousins and his receivers. Here’s what he had to say of the work that’s been put in, courtesy of the team’s website:

"“I think it’s been good. Today we had a couple of miscommunications and he tried to force a couple. Sometimes you watch a tape and, ‘I think you could have thrown that, just give him a chance to make a play.’ And we’re trying to get him to force the issue a little bit throwing the ball down the field and I think Josh [Norman] picked one and then we had a miscommunication with Josh Doctson and I think that’s when D.J. [Swearinger] got his. So I think he’s doing a good job. I think the receivers are doing a fine job being on the same page. Today was a little misnomer a couple of times, but for the most part I feel pretty good about where they are.”"

Cousins and Co. are getting the kinks out while they can. The offseason is the perfect time to try new things, and see what works. It’s good to see that both sides can hold their own, as well. So far, there’s plenty to like about the Redskins’ offseason. Hopefully, all the hard work will culminate in September with plenty of touchdown tosses to Pryor and Doctson.
