The Washington Redskins are expected to hold a press conference on Tuesday to talk about their front office situation. Rumors point to Eric Schaffer as the next potential general manager.

Since Scot McCloughan was fired by the Washington Redskins before the 2017 NFL offseason, there have been a lot of questions about the team’s general manager position. Bruce Allen and Jay Gruden essentially filled in as the primary decision makers in free agency and the draft, but that was not expected to last too long. After all, though Allen is the team’s president, he has only presided in that role with a man under him. They needed to focus on replacing McCloughan in order to avoid more turmoil in the front office.

With that said, it seems like the storyline is set to be resolved. On Tuesday, the Redskins are expected to hold a press conference to address what their front office structure will be. As of right now, nobody knows exactly what the Redskins have planned, but Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio spoke of a strong possibility in a recent article. Eric Schaffer. In his piece, Florio said the following of the rumor mill.

"As one league source explained it to PFT, the scuttlebutt currently points to Eric Schaffer potentially emerging as the new G.M. Likewise, there’s talk of an outsider or two joining the team, with Mark Dominik and/or Bill Kuharich getting mentioned as potential additions."

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also indicated that Schaffer would see additional responsibilities via a late night tweet.

While nothing is confirmed, it would make sense for Schaffer to be a Redskins target. Schaffer has been with the team for the past 14 years and most recently served as the Vice President of Football Administration. He has been responsible for contract negotiation and salary cap management.

Schaffer may not be the talent evaluator that the Redskins fans were hoping to land. There is no doubt that current TV personalities Mark Dominik and Mike Mayock were the sexier names. Still, Schaffer would offer continuity in the front office, something that seems to be important for this Redskins group. And his contract negotiation skills could come in handy as the team tries to work with Kirk Cousins on a new deal.
