Washington Redskins organized team activities begin today

Today marks another milestone on the road to the regular season for the Washington Redskins with the start of organized team activities, more commonly known as OTA’s.
Through OTA’s, rookies and veterans alike will look to gear up for the 2017 campaign, shaking off rust and building chemistry with one another. Check out these Washington Redskins photo highlights from today’s events:
These workouts, like those earlier in the offseason, are also voluntary, although participation is encouraged. Thus, two high-profile absences on day one stand out. Trent Williams and Jordan Reed failed to make an appearance at today’s workouts. These absences shouldn’t be blown out of proportion, however. Per Mike Jones of the Washington Post, neither was expected to attend Tuesday’s practice. Their absences should be temporary.
Workouts remain voluntary for three more weeks before mandatory minicamp begins on June 13. These practices are primed to get the players back into the swing of things before the impending regular season.
It’ll take a lot of hard work to live up to the expectations that are mounting for the Redskins. Coming off the first back-to-back winning seasons since 1997, the Redskins need to show that they’re here to stay. The competition in the NFC East is only growing stronger. In the last year, the division has become one of the NFL’s best. The Redskins need to show that they can keep up. The preparation process is key.

OTA’s are a great way to start that process. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for any roster updates. Starting now, the Redskins will look to whittle down their 90-man roster before preseason. There are quite a few dark horse candidates to make the roster. Keep an eye on their names as the Redskins work their way through the offseason.
