Scot McCloughan has been making headlines since he and the Washington Redskins parted ways in early March. However, all of his comments about the team have been positive.

Scot McCloughan was considered to be a beacon of hope for the Washington Redskins faithful. After years and years of waiting for a capable general manager, McCloughan appeared to be the guy who would bring the Redskins back to the top of their game. However, McCloughan was fired by the team after two seasons this March, and the fans were not happy with the split.

However, as time has gone on, it has become more clear that McCloughan harbors no resentment for his former team. Yesterday, it was reported that he was auctioning off his Redskins memorabilia to benefit the team’s charitable foundation. Then, on Tuesday, McCloughan spoke on 106.7 the Fan about the parting between the teams. According to Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post, McCloughan said the following on the Grant [Paulsen] and Danny [Rouhier] Show.

"“You know, it’s too bad what happened here, but it was mutual. And there’s a lot of good people in this organization, from the ownership down throughout he whole building. Players, coaches and Dan [Snyder] was nothing but great to us. It just didn’t work out. And as you guys are well aware, it’s a big business and it just didn’t work out. I hate leaving there because I’ve got so many close friends, not just guys that I drafted but there’s a lot of good people."

This is yet another classy move by McCloughan. Despite what seemed like a messy breakup, McCloughan is moving on with no hard feelings. He is not even taking credit for the team’s most recent draft class. Though he told Paulsen and Rouhier that the Redskins had a good draft, he denied having a hand in it other than crafting a big board prior to his departure. These words of praise for his former organization will likely give him a chance to land another solid job in the future.

At the end of the day, this interview just confirms what we already knew about McCloughan. He is a class act. It is a shame that he is no longer with the Redskins front office, but he will do great things wherever his next stop ends up being.
