Scot McCloughan parted ways with the Washington Redskins on March 9 of this past year. However, he has had an impact on the team over the past few months, and continues to help them in unexpected ways.

The departure of Scot McCloughan this offseason was something that was difficult for Washington Redskins fans to deal with. McCloughan was in the process of becoming one of the better drafting general managers in the NFL, and though he had some deficiencies in regards to free agency, he gave the team a potentially solid future. When McCloughan was fired on March 9, many expected the Redskins to take a step back as Bruce Allen took over McCloughan’s duties for the important offseason tasks.

Surprisingly, Allen actually had a very solid draft that was one of the best in the league. Adding talented players like Jonathan Allen, Fabian Moreau, and Samaje Perine, the Redskins are poised to make another playoff run. Of course, some of that can be credited to the use of McCloughan’s big board. Despite not being with the team, McCloughan still had a big hand in the draft process.

As if that was not enough of a gift to the Redskins, McCloughan is now taking yet another step to benefit his former team. According to ESPN’s John Keim, McCloughan is going to donate the money to the Redskins Charitable foundation. In the Keim story, McCloughan’s wife Jessica said the following.

"“When it’s all said and done, Scot and I are still grateful that we were able to come here, so why not give back to the people that brought us here.”"

This is a classy move by the McCloughan family. It is not often that you see people support the teams that let them go. Especially given the circumstances of McCloughan’s departure. Still, it appears that there is no real bad blood between he and the Redskins organization. It is a shame that the Redskins had to let McCloughan go, but perhaps he will land another personnel job in the near future.
