The Washington Redskins have a couple of early picks in the fourth round of Day 3. Their first pick was spent on Samaje Perine, and that was a terrific value.

The Washington Redskins focused on the defensive side of the football in the firstthree rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft. The team added talent at defensive line, rush linebacker, and cornerback and their defense is looking much stronger than it did in 2016. With their first Day 3 pick, the Redskins elected to go a different route by selecting Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine.

Perine is one of my favorite running backs in this draft. He runs with power, and has excellent size. Despite being 5-foot-10, he has a 235 pound frame. His ceiling was as a second round pick, so getting him their first fourth round pick was fantastic.

For the Redskins, Perine is going to have a chance to start for the team. He will battle with Rob Kelley for the starting job, and should have a good chance to win. Both are very strong, tackle breaking running backs and the team should be able to use them very well in rotation with Chris Thompson.

At Oklahoma, Perine was a team captain and broke the team’s single game rushing record. He was always ready to carry the ball as many times as possible, and he was just overshadowed by Joe Mixon in the past year. He could end up being just as good as Mixon, though they are different style backs.

This pick made a whole lot of sense. The Redskins spent the first three rounds of the draft upgrading their defense, and they finally landed an offensive player. Perine is going to be an early impact player. There is no doubt. He has excellent ball carrying abilities, great intangibles, and really should be a solid Redskin.
