The second round of the 2017 NFL Draft is about to get underway. The Washington Redskins may consider trading up in order to get Dalvin Cook.

The Washington Redskins have nine picks left in the 2017 NFL Draft. After filling a void on the defensive line, the team is rumored to potentially be interested in Florida State running back Dalvin Cook. According to ESPN’s John Keim, the Redskins may look to trade up for him if possible:

More from Riggo's Rag

"[Cook is] a first-round talent who fell because of multiple concerns: off-the-field issues, durability and fumbles. But he’s a dynamic back, which is what the Redskins want. However, it’s hard to imagine him falling to 49 — therefore, don’t be surprised if they try to move up to get him. It might require them to move to the top of the second round."

Thus far, the Redskins have not swung a trade to the knowledge of the media. They would likely have to move ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are trying to move up, to get this deal done, and that may be hard to do.

However, given their draft capital, it is absolutely not out of the question. If the Redskins really think that Cook could be a three down back for the team, they could sacrifice some of their resources and make sure that they get a playmaker on both sides of the football. That said, if they stay put, they should still be able to add solid depth to their team, as a strong player is likely to be available. Also, the Redskins are trying to move on from Matt Jones, according to reports, so they seem likely to add a running back at some point anyway.

It remains to be seen what the Redskins will do on Friday. One thing is certain. They will continue to upgrade their team, provided that they do not reach for a player at any juncture.
