Scot McCloughan was fired this offseason by the Washington Redskins. Now, it appears that he is advising some teams ahead of the 2017 NFL Draft.

There was no doubt that Scot McCloughan was a solid personnel evaluator for the Washington Redskins. In two years with the team, McCloughan discovered a number of strong starters and diamonds in the rough that helped their team to become a playoff contender. However, after a rift with the front office and some apparent issues with drinking, McCloughan was fired by the Redskins. However, he was told that he could work for other teams, and it appears that he is.

According to CSN Mid-Atlantic’s JP Findlay, McCloughan has advised a couple of teams in the lead up to the 2017 NFL Draft. Findlay got this information via NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. If this is true, that means that some other teams may have a knowledge of the Redskins big board.

Though McCloughan left the team in the offseason, the Redskins have still been using his big board for the most part. the team did not have enough time to find a proper replacement, so they operated under the board that McCloughan and his top scouts created. It is likely that McCloughan has a good deal of knowledge on the board, and it is fair to wonder if teams will have a better idea of what players the Redskins are trying to target.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with this. McCloughan was given free reign to work for another team and given the way that his tenure with the Redskins ended, it is unsurprising that he would consult with other teams. Also, the big board constructed is essentially McCloughan’s, so his ideology about certain prospects is going to be what he shares with teams anyway.

At the end of the day, this will probably have minimal impact on the draft. At the most, the Redskins may see a team select one of their top prospects before they can. Still, the team will be in a strong position to add some upgrades during the draft. They will get the defensive help they need to fix their team no matter what.
