Round 4, Pick 7

Will Pick: OLB Ryan Anderson, Alabama

With the suspension of Trent Murphy and the arrest of Junior Galette, the Redskins are suddenly thin at the rush linebacker position again. They have Ryan Kerrigan, but not much else. They need to find a reliable option, and they have demonstrated an interest in Ryan Anderson.

More from Commanders Draft News

The Redskins met with Anderson this offseason, and he would be an experienced fit for their 3-4 defense. He played a key role on the edge for the Crimson Tide in the past two years, and he recorded a career high eight sacks in 2016. He may not be the best NFL edge rusher, but he has a very high floor. That will make him attractive to the Redskins front office.

Should Pick: DE Demarcus Walker, Florida State

Conversely, Demarcus Walker is a talented end who may not be a success at the NFL level. He has an inconsistent motor, but he totaled a whopping 16 sacks during his final collegiate campaign. If the Redskins are basing their pick off production, Walker is the obvious fit. He has more upside than Anderson. At the same time, he has a significantly lower floor, and could be a bust at the end of the day.

Dark Horse: S Tedric Thompson, Colorado

Here’s another dark horse safety. The Redskins have scouted Thompson and some other Colorado players, per the WalterFootball.com visits tracker, and Thompson is one of them. He could be the type of developmental safety that the team is looking for to play behind Su’a Cravens and D.J. Swearinger.
