Dalvin Tomlinson would be a key building block on Washington’s defense for years to come.

Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula has vowed to find a nose tackle for the Redskins in the draft. Washington struggled stopping the run in 2016 finishing 24th in yards allowed and 26th in yards per carry. Down the stretch of the season, they allowed the Panthers and Giants to get their first 100-yard rushers of the season in two heartbreaking losses. Adding a guy like Dalvin Tomlinson right in the middle of the defense would make huge difference on Sunday’s.

Tomlinson excels at stopping the run and has the size and strength to withstand double teams. At 6-3 310 pounds, the former wrestling state champion (GA) has sound functional strength that translates well to the field. Pro Football Focus spoke highly of Dalvin Tomlinson in their scouting report.

"Tomlinson is one of the elite run defenders in this draft class. He can beat the blockers across from him with quickness, length or strength. Tomlinson has a thick strong lower body which makes him tough to move. He can also keep his opponent at a distance with his arms and locate the ball very well. Tomlinson has the ability to play two-gaps as well as the quickness to be a one-gap penetrator."

Tomlinson would complete the overhaul for the Redskins defensive line. Paired with Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee, the defensive line and namely the run defense would be improved immensely. Tomlinson is a space-eater and he keeps linebackers clean.

Tomlinson is a game-changer at nose tackle plain and simple. If I’m Jim Tomsula, I’m making a strong case for Tomlinson with the 49th pick. Some may consider it a reach but he’s too talented of a player to last into the third round. At the very least, expect Tomlinson to be on the Redskins’ radar at some point during Day 2 of the NFL Draft.
