The Washington Redskins don’t do Color Rush. They’re making sure it stays that way for the 2017 season.

According to ESPN reporter John Keim the Redskins want NFL teams to have the options to opt out of the Color Rush option on Thursday nights. The Redskins have ducked the task of using their Color Rush uniforms because of playing on Thanksgiving. However, there is another reason:

"The Redskins’ unis, if they ever have to wear them, would be gold on gold with burgundy numbers."

Still trying to get a visual of what that looks like? Here you go – courtesy of the NFL:

The proposal to opt out, according to Keim, will be presented at the NFL Owners meeting next week. This is one decision this off season  fans and the Redskins front office can agree with. That’s a lot of yellow to make anyone wear.  And those gloves – wow, just wow. Needless to say if they can’t get any movement on this campaign next week, add it to the list of crazy things you’re going to see coming out of Redskins Park.  Here are some tips on how to watch the Thursday night game if the Redskins have to wear those awful jerseys:

  1. Adjust the color settings on your TV.
  2. Wear sunglasses the entire game

This begs the question, are there uglier Color Rush jerseys out there? According to Sports Illustrated – Yes. The Washington Redskins ranked #29 on their list  . Here’s their review:

"Thankfully, these ketchup and mustard kits won’t see the field this season."

Who had uglier jerseys? SI Ranked The Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, and Jacksonville Jaguars under the Redskins. That might help the Redskins argument. Misery loves company. If the other teams can agree with the Redskins on this option, the Redskins may turn out to be more hero than villain entering the season.
