1. Malik McDowell

A popular name in Redskins mock drafts in the past couple of weeks has been Malik McDowell. McDowell, a Michigan State product, seems to be a first round lock thanks to his ability to break into opposing backfields.

In the past two seasons, McDowell has produced 20 tackles for loss and six sacks. He has great length on his 6-foot-6 frame and should be a natural fit at the end position in a 3-4 defense. Helping McDowell is his scheme versatility, as he could also function as a defensive tackle in a 4-3 front. The only downside to McDowell is that he could stand to add a little more muscle for the next level. That can be helped once he gets into an NFL strength and conditioning program.

If the Redskins like McDowell’s upside, they could elect to select him with the No. 17 overall pick. McDowell could become a strong NFL player, and he should be a guy to watch during the 2017 NFL Combine.
