According to reports, the Washington Redskins will break their silence and finally speak with impending free agents at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine.

So breathe, the wheels are finally beginning to turn.   The Washington Redskins are going to finally talk shop.

Mike Jones of the Washington Post reported Friday  discussions will include Chris Baker, Vernon Davis, Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson. The discussions will also include Will Compton and Chris Thompson. As far as Kirk Cousins is concerned, well, we’re still watching.

This almost had to happen due to the recent re-signing of  OLB Junior Galette. Galette, signing a one-year $800,000 contract, is proof the Redskins are making moves behind the scenes and leaving everyone in suspense. Even though Galette hasn’t played in a long, long time due to injuries, it will be interesting to see if he is worth the money.

Continue to look for Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson, and Cousins to make headlines. It’s hard to ignore a top-tier quarterback with no contract and his two top receivers possibly looking for work elsewhere.  Those rumors are flying. While many writers, including yours truly, have all three men heading West for the NFL 2017 Season, there is always the possibility  Jackson will base his decision on what happens to Cousins. We could end up with at least those two left when the smoke clears. Garcon has several options to look at, and is probably gone March 9.

In addition, beginning discussions at the Combine sends a cold message: “We can consider keeping you, but we have options.”  From that angle, the only Redskins players on the hot seat would be the defense. When you consider there are several good defensive players ready to show off in front of scouts, owners, and coaches, now is the time for the veterans to make a deal.  The clock is ticking.
