Holdovers at Defensive End

Along with Baker, another guy who can bounce inside or outside but was somewhat disappointing last season is Stephen Paea. The former Oregon State Beaver is also 28 years old but took longer to learn the Redskins defensive terminology than expected.

In OTA’s this past offseason coaches liked that he was reacting more than thinking. A bit of trivia:  Paea was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 2nd round of the 2011 draft after bench pressing 225 lbs. an astonishing 49 times at the NFL Combine.  He will be in his 2nd season with the Redskins in 2016.

Also at defensive end is Ricky Jean-Francois, 29, an 8-year veteran.  He played well in his first season after signing with the Redskins as a free agent in 2015.  The former LSU Tiger played in all 16 games last year and has been consistent throughout his career.

Trent Murphy was the Redskins 2nd round pick in 2014 after leading the nation in sacks as a senior at Stanford.  The 25-year-old has gained more than 30 pounds under team supervision to help him with the transition to full-time DE.
