Nose Tackle

The nose tackle position is being de-emphasized throughout the NFL recently so while many publications were citing the urgency with which the team needed to act and replace Terrence Knighton, the Redskins took a different approach.

The team resigned Kedric Golston who was their 6th round pick about a decade ago and at 33, he’s the elder statesman of the defensive line. Many believed he wouldn’t be back with the team in 2016 following a season where he didn’t play much but for the Redskins, he’s a known quantity.

They brought in competition from 29-year-old Jerrell Powe who was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 6th round of the 2011 draft out of Mississippi.  He played in all 16 games last season with three starts for Houston in 2015.  At 331 lbs., he certainly has the mass to fill the position and give Golston a challenge.

Chris Baker is going into his 8th season and showed versatility in 2015 moving inside where he played some NT and DT from his more natural DE position.  At 28, he’s coming off a very good season and could play more nose tackle if others can step up at end.
