Predicting 5 Players the Redskins Will Release This Offseason
QB Robert Griffin III
Okay, I know this one is a given but it’s still worth mentioning.
Griffin is set to make over $16 million in 2016, and will be released by the Redskins before March 9 to ensure that they don’t have to pay that amount to their former starting quarterback. It’s an inevitable move at this point in the process, but one that will certainly leave a sour taste in the mouths of many D.C. fans.
When the Redskins traded away a king’s ransom to draft Griffin, it seemed like they were getting themselves a long-term solution under center. The early returns were certainly promising, but the marriage is set to end in an ugly divorce after a complete collapse from Griffin that stemmed from Jay Gruden’s decision to immediately give up on the Baylor product.
It’s an unfortunate way for Griffin’s time in Washington to end, but it is what it is. Now we’ll see where RG3 lands–hopefully not in the NFC East–and wonder what could have been.
