RB Matt Jones

I know a lot of people aren’t going to like this, but it’s hard to deny that Jones left quite a bit to be desired after being built up as a star in the making heading into his rookie season. Many expected him to unseat Alfred Morris as the starter, but every time he began gaining some momentum, he fumbled it away (literally and figuratively). So while the talent is there, it’s accompanied by plenty of disappointment.

Now don’t get me wrong–Jones is an impressive athlete with the potential to develop into a true No. 1 running back for the Redskins. However, there’s still plenty of growth he needs to undergo before we can start talking about him deserving a “featured back” role. Jones should probably start with doing a better job of securing the football, especially when he’s at the goal line.

It’s certainly harsh to put Jones on this list, but ProFootballFocus would agree that he struggled mightily as a rookie–just ask his No. 66 ranking among qualified backs in 2015. In 2016, Jones needs to improve his ball security, consistency (3.4 yards per carry) and pass blocking before I consider removing him from this list.
