Inside Linebacker: Danny Trevathan

It’s unfortunate that there are not a lot of top-tier talents available at inside linebacker this offseason. Most of the big names are getting up there in age, and may not be worth the invest (especially a long-term invest). There is one name, however, that stands out above the rest when it comes to upside, playmaking ability and overall value.

That is Trevathan, who has spent the last few years flying under the radar as one of the Denver Broncos’ top young defenders. While folks have focused on players like Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib, the former Kentucky standout has made a name for himself as a versatile, athletic linebacker who can make plays all over the field. Just ask ProFootballFocus, which had him ranked as the No. 10 linebacker of the 2016 campaign.

While the Redskins would love to nab a talent like Trevathan to take over as one of the starters in their 3-4 defense, it’s unclear if he’ll even make it to the open market. The Broncos are reportedly interested in bringing him back, but may not have the cap space to do so considering they’ll have a number of big-time defenders looking to get paid this offseason. If he is available during free agency, though, you better believe the Redskins will at least kick the tires.
