5 Redskins Rumors You Need to Know About Right Now
Terrance Knighton Unlikely to be Re-signed?
At some point this offseason, the Redskins will have to decide whether or not they saw enough from Knighton in 2015 to warrant a new, more lucrative deal heading into 2016. Based on talk I’ve seen around Twitter and the blogosphere, the general consensus is that Washington won’t be willing to hand him said deal.
There’s no denying that Knighton is a valuable asset to any NFL defense. He’s a mountainous man in the middle of the Redskins’ 3-4 defense, and does a great job of eating up blockers and clogging running lanes. Unfortunately, his ability to collapse the pocket didn’t exactly live up to the hype last season. He was a great addition for D.C., but the overall output and effectiveness on the field left something to be desired for a player playing on a “prove it” deal.
So what happens now? Well, the Redskins will be thinking long and hard about whether they believe Knighton earned the right to be paid more than the $4 million he received in 2015. My guess would be that they answer that question with a “no,” and assume that they can find another capable nose tackle via either free agency or the 2016 NFL Draft who comes with a much cheaper price tag.
