ILB Perry Riley Jr.
One of the positions the Redskins most need to address this offseason is inside linebacker, and that includes replacing current starters with new ones. Riley is one of those current starters who should be replaced, especially at his current salary.
Last season, Riley was an average starter at best–nothing more. Although he’s been productive during his six years in Washington, his effectiveness on the field isn’t too exciting. With the promising play of Will Compton and the team likely to address the position via both free agency and the draft, it’s easy to understand why the Redskins would consider letting Riley go at some point this offseason.
Riley is set to make $5.049 million in 2015, but would save the Redskins $4 million against the cap if he was let go. Assuming they find their extra help over the next few months, it would make perfect sense for Jay Gruden to sever ties with Riley. It’s been a good run, but it’s time for these two parties to go their separate ways.
