WR Andre Roberts

At this point, there are a number of wide receivers the Redskins could be moving on from this offseason. However, in this situation, I’m taking a particular look at Roberts. He was signed in 2014 to be Washington’s go-to receiver, and was quickly surpassed by DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon as the passing game’s playmakers.

It doesn’t help that the Redskins have watched a number of their young receivers break out as capable playmakers–specifically, 2015 fourth-round pick Jamison Crowder. Ryan Grant has also been a solid depth player, but still has more work to do before he can be relied on as a consistent contributor.

As for Roberts, it could be the end of his run in D.C. He’s set to haul in $5 million in 2015, which is way too much for a No. 3 receiver, especially when younger, cheaper options are already on the roster. It doesn’t help that, since signing with the Redskins, Roberts only has 47 catches, 588 receiving yards and two touchdowns to his name. Not exactly $5 million worth of potential production…

Suffice it to say, Washington could be bidding Roberts farewell this offseason. They’d save at least $3 million in cap space by doing so.
