There’s no guarantee that Terrance Knighton will re-sign with the Redskins this offseason, and Kedric Golston may opt for retirement. If one or both of those things happens, Washington would be in a particularly bad situation at nose tackle. What better place to address the issue than free agency?

Not a lot of casual fans know about Williams, whether that’s due to his less-than-memorable name or inglorious position. However, there’s no denying that he’s an outstanding asset at nose tackle who can certainly be a difference maker for any defense. The 49ers have enjoyed his presence over the last few seasons, especially when it comes to his superb abilities against the ground game.

While Williams has stated that he’s very interested in re-signing with the 49ers, the potential is there for the Redskin to woo him away from San Francisco. The 49ers are in a state of flux right now, whereas Washington offers a more stable situation with playoff potential. The Redskins could also offer him a significant pay increase from the $1.495 million he made in 2015, especially if Knighton ends up not re-signing.

If the pieces fall a certain way, Williams will be an excellent target for the Redskins in March.
