Trent Murphy

I’m not sure why Murphy doesn’t get more love, but he was one of the more valuable pieces of the Redskins defense in 2015. He may been holding Junior Galette’s place in the starting lineup, but he proved with his play that Washington needs to find a significant role for him moving forward.

Apart from Ryan Kerrigan, Murphy was arguably one of the Redskins’ most effective pass rushers throughout the 2015 campaign. Although he only managed 3.5 sacks on the season, the Stanford product put consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks and made the most of his opportunities. On top of that, he excelled in pass coverage, which we can’t say for most of the Redskins’ linebackers.

Murphy is scheduled to make $1.2 million in 2016, but could use a pay raise based on his past performances. Especially if he transitions to defensive end (an idea that’s been thrown around) and succeeds, that would be more than enough reason for the Redskins to up his pay.

He’s still young and has more potential to unlock, but Murphy has given me more than enough reason to believe that his NFL future is very bright.
