Extra Points

Redskins must score early

Whether it’s a field goal or an early touchdown, the Washington Redskins offense needs to put points on the board in the early stages of the game.  Neither offense is very good at coming from behind and we want Ryan Fitzpatrick to be the one passing a lot.  The more pass attempts he has the more picks he might throw.

The Redskins went up early on the Falcons last week and bloodied their nose.  The Falcons were flustered and confused when they got behind early and it affected Matt Ryan.  The Redskins need to do the same to Fitzpatrick.

Redskins special teams need to be special

One sure way to help get an upset is to get a kick or punt return for a TD.  As tough as the Jets defense is, the Redskins will need to find other ways to get points on the board.  Jamison Crowder is due for a long return and we’ve already seen Rashad Ross take one to the house and the Redskins could use one here.

Also, kicker Dustin Hopkins has played very well so far and the Redskins need that to continue.  And no blocked punt or bad kick coverage can be tolerated in this game.  We saw how badly the Giants game got started with the blocked punt.  No more of that please!

Alfred Morris needs a big game

Everyone is wondering what’s happened to Alfred Morris?  Is he being phased out in favor of Matt Jones?  Or is he just not a good fit for the Redskins power running game?  Well, whatever’s going on the Redskins could stand to have Morris gaining some tough yards on the Jets.

A 100 yard game would take a lot of pressure off of Kirk Cousins and would help control time of possession.  Which in turn helps keep the defense fresh.  We need Alfred Morris to break out of his funk and week 6 is as good a time as any.
