With the presence of Alfred Morris, the drafting of Matt Jones and the buzz created by rookie undrafted free agent Trey Williams, it seems that third-year veteran Chris Thompson has gotten a little lost in the shuffle at running back.
But the fact is when he’s healthy, he’s among the most skillful backs on the team. And early in training camp Thompson has used his shiftiness and speed to make a nice impression in the running back camp battle.
The thing that Thompson has to do that he hasn’t previously is stay healthy. If he can stay on the field then I think his speed is something that could help the Redskins offense out of the backfield.
With Alfred Morris guaranteed a spot on the team and Jones too as a high round draft pick, the role of third down back is still open and Chris Thompson has a shot at claiming it. But only if he continues to perform well in camp and most importantly stay healthy.
