Robert Griffin III versus the Cincinnati Bengals- The Third Quarter

The second half was much better for the Redskins and Griffin. They mixed in runs by Alfred Morris and Royster with two consecutive passes to Fred Davis for first downs. A read option run by Griffin set up Morris’ seven yard touchdown run, the first offensive TD of the game for the Redskins.

Griffin threw to Leonard Hankerson for 23 yards off of a play action fake to begin the next drive. Offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan then called eight consecutive run plays mixing in five read option runs. Two of them were pitches to Banks.

Griffin ran for a first down on one of the plays as the Redskins were finding their way versus the Bengals finally.  After another read option run, Griffin throws to Santana Moss for a three yard touchdown. The score was then tied at 24.

The Redskins had a three and out series next with the Bengals stopping the read option pitch to Banks. Griffin was sacked again on second down with no open receivers. An incomplete pass ended the drive on third down.

An incomplete pass ended the quarter at the start of the next drive. Griffin scored points on 7 pass plays for a 1.14 pass rating. His 5 points on 3 run plays gave him a 1.67 rating run rating. A much better showing for Griffin and the Redskins.
