Robert Griffin III Versus St. Louis Rams 2012-Fourth Quarter

The fourth quarter begins with another three and out series and a punt. Griffin plays well on the next drive using the play action pass three times and keeps the ball on the read option for a first down. Aldrick Robinson drops a possible touchdown on a nice throw by Griffin.

Griffin ran the ball four times on the drive including another quarterback draw and two scrambles. He is stopped short of the first down marker on third down on the second of those scrambles. The Redskins are forced to punt again.

Griffin completes just one of three passes on another three and out series. The Redskins have a chance to win on their final drive of the game. Griffin moves the team down the field with a pass for a first down followed by a scramble for a first down.

    • Two more completed passes have the Redskins in position to kick a field goal to tie the game or go for a go ahead touchdown as they trail 28-31. Unfortunately Josh Morgan lets cornerback Courtland Finnegan bait him into throwing the ball at him and the Redskins are forced to try a 62 yard field goal. Kai Forbath misses and the Redskins lose their first game of the season.

    Griffin scored 14 points on 16 pass plays for a 0.88 rating in the fourth quarter. He earned 4 points on 2 run plays for a 2.00 rating on designed run plays. Morris only ran the ball once in the fourth quarter and only three times after his 53 yard chunk on four plays early in the third quarter. Four of the 16 pass plays used play action and one of five running plays used the read option.
