Vic Beasley, OLB
College Team: Clemson
Size: 6′ 3″ and 246 lbs.
Speed: 40yd-4.53, 10yd.-1.59
Measurements: Arms-32 and 1/2″, Hands-9 and 5/8″
Vic Beasley is the best outside pass rusher in the draft. He did that mostly from the RDE spot at Clemson but will translate better to OLB in a 3-4 in the NFL. Beasley had 33 sacks and 29 QB pressures with 7 forced fumbles during his career at Clemson.
Beasley is a strong athlete and did the 225lb. bench press 35 times at the NFL combine in February. He played at a much lighter weight at Clemson of about 218lbs but bulked up for the combine and still had great speed. Beasley will need to continue to add weight in the NFL.
Beasley has a very high motor and uses his strength well
Strengths:
Beasley has incredible quickness. He is in the backfield at the snap of the ball often and most offensive tackles are too slow to stop him. He has an array of pass rush moves which he uses in a relentless pursuit of the QB.
Beasley has a very high motor and uses his strength well. He will over-power offensive tackles with a bull rush or slip by them with his speed. He is able to use leverage to get around much bigger players.
Weaknesses:
Beasley struggles versus the run. He needs to increase his lower body mass and strength to hold up versus runs in his direction.
Although he pursues the ball well, his focus can be lost. Beasley needs to work on his technique versus the run to match his intensity.
Redskins Fit:
Like most of the OLB prospects, Beasley should benefit from NFL coaching. He will also get stronger in the lower body with a more rounded strength program.
Beasley is the perfect fit for the outside pass rusher that the Redskins are looking for. Initially, he would be used as a situational rusher and would be the RDE when the Redskins go to their 4 man pass rush line.
