Washington Redskins Continue to Let Fans Down

The Washington Redskins are one of the most inconsistent teams I’ve ever witnessed. I’ve also been a fan over the years, so maybe that’s a biased opinion.

But I’m 27 years old, and every since I was old enough to know what was taking place on the football field — which was around the age of eight for me — the Redskins have constantly underachieved.

They’ve had very talented teams, Super Bowl winning coaches, and they’ve even had a few Hall of Famers on the roster, but they can never get over the hump.

I would like to witness at least one Redskins Super Bowl with my own two eyes. Heck, I would just like to see them make the playoffs more often.

We laugh at the Dallas Cowboys for frequently finishing seasons with a record of 8-8. But having experienced so many seasons where the Redskins finished below .500, I wouldn’t mind a subpar 8-8 year from time to time. At least Cowboys’ fans can watch meaningful games throughout the year.

There’s only one team left standing at the conclusion of an NFL season. And most of the time, your team isn’t going to win a Super Bowl. But, sometimes there’s joy in just watching your team play in games with something on the line.

The reason so many Redskins fans get excited about games against Dallas is because there’s something to play for — bragging rights.

The Redskins could finish the season 4-12, but if they defeat the Cowboys twice along the way, fans would be somewhat satisfied — but not me.

I want to watch the Redskins WIN! I want to see consistent trips to the playoffs. I want to see consistency in the coaching staff. I want to see consistency at the quarterback position. I just want to be excited to watch the Redskins play every Sunday. Is that too much to ask?

Once again, the Redskins have found a way to disappoint their fans. After playing down to a Minnesota Vikings team Sunday, that they should have beaten, the Redskins find themselves at 3-6 heading into their bye week. Yea, 3-6. I know they started that way in 2012, and then won seven in a row en-route to the playoffs, but what are the chances of that happening again?

Even though I felt Robert Griffin III played well in his first game since Week 2, they still didn’t win. When the Redskins’ offense plays well, the defense usually doesn’t. When the Redskins’ defense does decide to play a good game, the offense doesn’t meet them halfway.

But after a while — as a Redskins fan — you get used to this. Yea, you get used to losing. As upset as I am right now, it doesn’t surprise me. Why? Because I’ve felt this before. I’ve felt the pain, stress and agony that comes along with bleeding burgundy and gold.

I’m just a hurt Redskins fan, crying out for this team to be successful.
