Commanders could draft Gracen Halton
- Defensive Line | Oklahoma Sooners
With the Washington Commanders expected to move into a 3-4 base defensive front under new coordinator Daronte Jones, their success will be spearheaded by the projected interior line trio of Daron Payne, Javon Kinlaw, and Tim Settle Jr. But reliable options are pretty thin on the ground behind them.
This is something the Commanders could address on Day 3 of the draft. Shy Tuttle, D.J. Davidson, and Johnny Newton are slotted as the understudies right now. That may not be enough, and Gracen Halton has the physical tools needed to carve out a rotational role for himself with some additional refinement.
Commanders could draft Beau Stephens
- Offensive Line | Iowa Hawkeyes
No team should ever settle where their offensive line depth is concerned. Four of Washington's starting five will return next season, which is a massive bonus. However, Adam Peters should explore possibilities to enhance the depth at some stage on Day 3.
Nick Allegretti, Andrew Wylie, Brandon Coleman, and Trent Scott are currently slotted as backups. One more productive option wouldn't hurt, bringing Beau Stephens into the equation.
Iowa has a habit of sending highly productive offensive linemen to the pros. Stephens has some useful athletic traits. He's also got experience at either guard position, which is always helpful.
Commanders could draft Dani Dennis-Sutton
- Edge Rusher | Penn State Nittany Lions
The Commanders invested heavily in their edge rushing room this offseason. Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, and Charles Omenihu all came on board. With Dorance Armstrong Jr. making encouraging progress from a knee injury that ended his breakout season way ahead of time, this has the makings of a productive quartet.
Armstrong is out of contract next spring. Chaisson and Omenihu only signed one-year deals. It's not the most stable in the long term, so drafting a high-upside development project wouldn't be the worst idea on Day 3.
Dani Dennis-Sutton has the size, length, and explosiveness the Commanders have sought this offseason. He's slid further than expected, but whether he'll get out of the fourth round is debatable.
Commanders could draft Jermod McCoy
- Cornerback | Tennessee Volunteers
Jermod McCoy is a first-round talent. One could even argue he's the best cornerback in this class at the peak of his powers. However, there are serious injury red flags causing a draft slide of epic proportions.
McCoy's medical evaluations around his knee, which led to him missing the entire 2025 campaign with the promise of another surgery, are giving teams enough reasons to look elsewhere. It's clear that some teams have him completely off their board, but the Commanders could find a range in Day 3 that would potentially make this an acceptable risk.
This is so unfortunate for an unber-talented prospect, and not even an impressive workout pre-draft was enough to turn the tide.
