Linebacker Zach Brown has joined the Washington Redskins. He is looking to prove that his 2016 season was not a fluke.

One of the better inside linebackers in the NFL during the 2016 NFL season was Zach Brown. In his first year with the Buffalo Bills, Brown was a revelation playing in the team’s 3-4 defense. He recorded a career high in tackles with 149 and recorded four sacks. He also had an interception and forced a couple of fumbles. Brown used his athleticism and playmaking ability to become a Pro Bowler, and many expected him to get a big payday in 2017.

However, a market for the linebacker’s service never really materialized. He got interest from a few teams, but he ended up signing a one year deal with the Washington Redskins. Considering that he was coming off a career year and he is still just 27, this was a mild surprise.

Now, it seems like the lack of attention has made Brown into a hungrier player. According to a recent article by ESPN’s John Keim, Brown is looking to make a big impact with the Redskins. He said that he wants to be defensive MVP, and said the following about his abilities.

"“I’ll make other head coaches pay for not drafting me or picking me up,” Brown said. “I feel [people] still don’t respect me, so for me I have to prove myself again. I always play with a chip on my shoulder. If you don’t respect my game, I will make you respect my game.“I can play with the best of them. I’m not just another linebacker that can be replaced. I feel I’m one of the top guys in the league at inside linebacker. I can do everything.”"

This is great news for the Redskins. They need a hard nosed, three down linebacker with something to prove. Linebacker was one of the weaker positions on the Redskins team last season. Mason Foster can get by as a three down guy, but Will Compton lacks the ability to play every down. He is better served as a coverage backer, so Brown will be a starter.

With this fire and desire to prove others wrong, Brown is going to have a chance to be an impact player with the Redskins. If he puts together another stellar season with the Redskins, then he will have a chance to earn a lucrative contract extension from the team, or he will get a big deal from another in the 2018 offseason.
