The NFL schedule is set to be released at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 20. Around the league, teams are getting excited, the Washington Redskins included.

Early in the day, it was leaked that the Washington Redskins would be playing their first home Thanksgiving game in their franchise’s history. This broke via Master Testafion of the Washington Post, who communicated that the New York Giants would be the Redskins opponent.

Of course, the Redskins are no stranger to Thanksgiving action, and have played nine times on the biggest holiday of the NFL season. Their 2-7 record leaves a lot to be desired, but perhaps playing at home could help them to grab an important win.

Elsewhere, as of right now, it appears that the Redskins will open at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. News of this broke via ESPN NFL Insider Adam Kaplan on Twitter:

This is more good news for the Redskins. The Eagles are a divisional rival, so the game will carry extra importance for the two teams. Both boast relatively strong offenses, so it could be an early season shootout. Not only will it be exciting, but being the home team should give the Redskins an early advantage.

Away: Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers.
