Golden State Warriors Forward and well- known Washington Redskins fan Kevin Durant  says Kirk Cousins deserves a long-term deal.

In a recent interview with the Washington Post, he said the following:

"“He’s getting better. I think he’s paid his dues. We didn’t know what we’d get out of him when [Robert Griffin III] got hurt, but he’s proven that he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league.”"

Kevin Durant enters the campaign late, but makes some good points. In a different reality, we shouldn’t be considering Cousins for nothing. His job? Be a decent backup quarterback. No one expected to see Cousins playing at this level. No one thought the day would come where Redskins fans would watch RG3 play for a different team.  On that same thought, who considered Alfred Morris would be playing for the Dallas Cowboys? Fate has a way of keeping you on your toes and teaching hard lessons.

Cousins, as Durant pointed out, is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. To let him go now would equate to what Carolina Panthers fans felt when their organization didn’t re-sign Josh Norman. Sooner or later the Redskins need to develop a dedicated state of mind if they’re ever going to build a team worth respecting. It doesn’t begin with letting the one player handcrafted and built from the organization get paid the contract he deserves by another team. It would be embarrassing, and set the Redskins back at least five years.

He was a pleasant surprise. Not a diamond in the rough, but one prepared to shine at a moment’s notice. He’s had his moments, but every quarterback does.  In the end, it’s going to come down to not how much, but who do you trust.  That question will have dire consequences.  Kevin Durant is right. Cousins deserves a long-term deal.
