The Washington Redskins have declared four players out for Sunday’s game against the Browns. How much of an impact will it have on their team?

The Washington Redskins have gone from being a relatively healthy team, to being a team that is plagued with injuries. After losing a couple of starters, DeAngelo Hall and Kory Lichtensteiger, to season ending injuries, it was announced that four more key players will be missing Sunday’s game with injury issues.

Because of these injuries, the Redskins may have a tougher time against the Cleveland Browns than was initially expected.

The most impactful injuries for the team come in the secondary. The Redskins are going to be without their No. 2 cornerback, Bashaud Breeland. Though Breeland had struggled somewhat to start the season, he still has the talent and skill set to develop into a solid cornerback. He may have just been adjusting to having a talented playing partner like Josh Norman. Unfortunately, his ankle will keep him out of the game and that could hurt the defense.

The Breeland injury is also complicated by the fact that nickel corner Dashaun Phillips will miss the game. Phillips injured his hamstring against the Giants, and that will keep him out against the Browns. As a result, the Redskins should expect to see some younger players see a lot of action. Quinton Dunbar played extremely well in last week’s game, and he may be the No. 2 corner for the team on Sunday.

At the nickel position, I would expect the team to use a combination of veteran corner Greg Toler and rookie Kendall Fuller. Fuller had a solid showing in the preseason, so I would like to see what he can do in his first NFL action. Against the Browns, he may get a good test and really get to prove that he deserves a role on the team moving forward.

The other starter to be officially out is left guard Shawn Lauvao. Normally, this would not be considered to be a big deal as Spencer Long would step into the void. However, with Lichtensteiger out, Long has to play center which means Arie Kouandjio will get his first start at guard on Sunday. It will be interesting to see if the young player succeeds. If he does not, then the newly signed John Sullivan may get a chance to play center with Long kicking over to guard.

The final player to be confirmed as out is Josh Doctson. Doctson has been dealing with some Achilles problems since training camp, and they appear to be getting worse as he tries to play through them. The Redskins made a mistake rushing him back. They could have continued to dress Rashad Ross until Doctson was fully healthy, but they chose not to do that. They are paying the price, as the rookie now has to tread lightly moving forward.

Elsewhere on the injury report, Kendall Reyes and Trent Murphy are both questionable. Reyes has missed the last couple of games with a groin malady, but he has been logging limited practices all week. He may be ready to go in Week 4 if all goes well.

Meanwhile, Murphy also logged a couple of limited practices, so it appears as though he will be ready to go despite his shoulder and elbow issues. The team can ill afford to be without Murphy. He has been one of their most consistent pass rush threats to start the season. Hopefully he will be able to suit up on Sunday.
