The Washington Redskins just signed controversial outside linebacker in Junior Galette but before they did second-year man Trent Murphy had been making a good impression in the early days of training camp.

Murphy has worked hard in the offseason in an effort to try and seize the outside linebacker spot opposite Ryan Kerrigan.  He’s gotten noticeably bigger and the year of experience in the NFL has helped him this year in grasping the concepts on new defensive coordinator Joe Barry.

Reports from camp say that Murphy has been one of the standouts and even with the signing of Junior Galette, Murphy has shown signs that he won’t let the extra competition get him down.  He was already competing with rookie Preston Smith, so adding Galette will only help Murphy get even better.

Although, I think Galette has the inside track to start it still good that Murphy is looking impressive.  Galett will more than likely be on his best behavior but if he slips up or is suspended for his previous antics, the Redskins could need Murphy to step in as a starter like he did late last season.
