6 tight ends the Commanders could select in the 2023 NFL Draft
Commanders could draft Luke Schoonmaker
- Selection – Round No. 4 (Pick No. 118)
- Height – 6-foot-5 | Weight – 251 pounds
- 2022 statistics – 35 receptions | 418 receiving yards | 3 touchdowns
Luke Schoonmaker‘s 2022 campaign was a little disappointing for the numbers Michigan put up every game. He doesn’t have much wow factor to him, although his NFL Scouting Combine performance and reliability on quick intermediate routes do stand out.
One complicated issue with Schoonmaker is his age. He will be 25 years old when entering the NFL, which is a little on the old side all things considered.,
For a player that is slightly undersized and lacks breakout potential, teams will hope Schoonmaker can be a fast learner, or provide some sort of an immediate boost in the receiving game. Otherwise, it might end up being a wasted pick if the prospect takes too long to pick things up.
Schoonmaker is expected to go somewhere between the fourth and fifth rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft. This selection would be for depth with the possibility of a competition for snaps behind Logan Thomas, who has more pressure on his shoulders than most next season.
Whether the Washington Commanders take a chance on Schoonmaker or someone else is entirely dependent on how Eric Bieniemy perceives the team’s current options at tight end. But those in power have eight selections to spend, so the chances of another capable body from a deep class coming into the fold are high.
