Commanders could trade up from No. 16

I’m sure every Washington Commanders fan just cringed reading that title. The thought of trading up high to select a quarterback again after the Robert Griffin III experience still leaves a sour taste in our mouths.

Although with an entirely new offense and not much clarity are the quarterback position, there is a possibility a new signal-caller is in the plans.

Here are some hypothetical trade-ups I’ve come up with and the Commanders’ selection at that pick.

The Commanders send picks No. 16, No. 47, No. 193, and their 2024 first-round selection to the Arizona Cardinals for pick No. 3.

With the No. 3 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Commanders select:

Anthony Richardson Richardson is a freak prospect. His size, strength, and pure athleticism are something we’ve never seen at the quarterback position before.

To compare him to an NFL player, he would be considered a mix of Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson.

Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy had a special player in Patrick Mahomes during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. He now has an opportunity to grab another potential generational talent, but the Commanders might not be willing to pay such a hefty price.

The Commanders send pick No. 16, No. 118, and their 2024 first-round selection to the Las Vegas Raiders for pick No. 7.

With the No. 7 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Commanders select:

Will Levis -Levis may have the biggest arm out of all the quarterback prospects. There have been concerns about his accuracy – although he played most of the season with turf toe which may have hindered his play.
