Commanders could sign Dalton Schultz

There might be no better way to improve your own team than taking an important player from a division rival. Dalton Schultz shined last season for the Dallas Cowboys and is easily the most well-rounded tight end amongst the current free-agent group.

Schultz will likely have the largest price tag by his name. This is due to his young age and well-balanced skill set.

His run-blocking was amongst the best for tight ends last year, while also being a serviceable receiver and red-zone threat. Schultz has definitely earned the large payday coming his way, which may not be very attractive for a Washington Commanders team that has other glaring needs on offense.

If by any chance Schultz lowers his asking price or takes a shorter deal, this is an opportunity the Commanders must not pass up. His blocking abilities can help the struggling offensive line and the veteran also has the receiving talent to get open for easy completions from young quarterback Sam Howell or someone else.

Although the Commanders’ brass highlighted their confidence in the team’s current options during their media availability at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, they would be foolish to not examine the possibility of additional reinforcements, at the very least.
