2. Sign Ereck Flowers to replace Andrew Norwell

Flowers found himself trending during Sunday’s loss to Philly, and for good reason as Norwell, much like Schweitzer, was a disaster. In the game, Norwell allowed four pressures and three hurries, per PFF, and is now responsible for two sacks and seven pressures through three games. Please save yourself the trouble of projecting those numbers over a 17-game schedule, because they’re horrifying.

If Ron Rivera is running a meritocracy, Norwell would be eligible for benching. Luckily for Washington, Flowers is still braving free agency. Not only is he familiar with the system and left tackle Charles Leno (which matters!) but he was quietly one of the more reliable left guards in the league in 2020 and ’21.

In 2020, Flowers allowed 20 pressures, just five hits and finished with a 73.8 pass-blocking grade over 858 snaps (all at left guard). In 2021, Flowers allowed 26 pressures and just three quarterback hits over 1,061 snaps (all at left guard).

During that span, he was called for a total of five penalties.

Time for the Commanders to admit they made a mistake releasing Flowers this offseason to save a couple million against the cap and bring him back.
