2. Jamin Davis

Ron Rivera was recently pleased with the strides Davis has made in training camp. The second-year linebacker has certainly had his moments and looks more comfortable, but the snap share at linebacker doesn’t reflect that whatsoever.

Davis and David Mayo have been splitting first-team reps alongside no-brainer starter Cole Holcomb and according to The Athletic’s Ben Standig, Mayo’s workload with the first team defense “ticked up” in recent sessions.

Additionally, the Commanders just signed veteran Nathan Gerry, who has 46 career games under his belt. ESPN’s John Keim tweeted after the signing that Washington opted for Gerry because of his athleticism and reliability in coverage. Couple that with Mayo’s prowess against the run and you have two specialists off the bench.

That doesn’t bode well for Davis, who could find himself relegated to a part-time role again if he doesn’t hit the ground running this season.

Not to mention Khaleke Hudson has impressed during camp, so you could potentially add another body to the rotation assuming he makes the team.

We’re still high on Davis’ potential, but his stock definitely took a hit this week with Mayo getting more first-team reps, the Gerry signing and Hudson, a 2020 draft pick, finally looking like he’s ready to have a role on defense.
