Ranking the Commanders’ 2022 opposing quarterbacks
This last tier is not necessarily the worst QBs the Commanders will face, but rather the ones with the most question marks. For the most part this means young QB’s who have not had a legitimate chance to prove themselves. That is true of second year QB’s Justin Fields, Davis Mills, and Trey Lance.
The Second-Year QBs
I am personally most afraid of playing against Trey Lance, but that is mainly because of all the weapons around him. Lance was the third overall pick in 2021, but sat behind Jimmy G for the majority of 2021. His rushing upside is undeniable and he has serious arm talent to go along with it. I believe in Justin Fields’ abilities, but the Bears just do not have the talent around him to help him succeed.
Then, there is Davis Mills, who was surprisingly adequate in relief on an injured Tyrod Taylor a year ago. I have a hard time imagining Davis Mills is ever a star in the league, but you never know and Mills is getting his chance for the Texans in 2022.
The Major Question Marks
The Falcons will probably be starting Marcus Mariota against the Commanders in Week 12. It is hard to evaluate a guy who hasn’t started more than six games since 2018. Mariota was a second overall pick back in the day, but it is unlikely he is able to lead a very successful Falcons offense in 2022.
Of course, it is impossible to evaluate the Browns QB situation. If Watson is able to play he may slot in close to the Aaron Rodgers tier, but if it is Jacoby Brissett then we are probably looking at someone in the Jared Goff and Daniel Jones tier.
