2. Tight End (For now)

Yes, Logan Thomas is on the road to recovery after he suffered a torn ACL on an admittedly dirty hit from Raiders defensive end Yannick Ngakoue in Week 13 of last season. The veteran tight end expects to be back for Week 1, but that’s wishful thinking given the injury was sustained so late into the schedule.

Without Thomas, the Commanders’ TE room leaves a lot to be desired. Ricky Seals-Jones signed with the Giants in free agency, Sammis Reyes is still learning the ins and outs of the sport and John Bates, despite overachieving as a fourth-round rookie in 2021, doesn’t offer much explosiveness as a pass catcher.

We clamored for Washington to add another veteran via free agency, but they used their resources to address other positions. That’s fine, but is the unit prepared to fill the void until Thomas gets back in the lineup? Can fifth-round pick Cole Turner really be expected to play a significant role right away?

These are all pertinent questions that won’t subside before training camp unless Washington makes a shock signing. Luckily, there’s some experienced vets still available, including Eric Ebron, Jared Cook, Kyle Rudolph and Tyler Kroft.
